British soprano Stephanie Hershaw is a soloist ensemble member at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater, where she has quickly established herself as a dynamic and versatile performer across a wide-ranging repertoire.

Opera roles performed include Susanna and Barbarina/Le nozze di Figaro, Zerlina/Don Giovanni, Gretel/Hänsel und Gretel, Sophie/Werther, Antonia/Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Ilia/Idomeneo, Ännchen/Der Freischütz, Romilda/Xerxes, Lenio/The Greek Passion, Flora and The Governess/The Turn of the Screw, Najade/Ariadne auf Naxos, Kate Pinkerton/Madama Butterfly, Papagena/Die Zauberflöte, 2nd Niece/Peter Grimes, Lauretta/Gianni Schicchi, Virtue/The Choice of Hercules, Celia/Silla, Suzanne/Robinson Crusoe, Amore/L’Egisto and the title role in The Cunning Little Vixen. Contemporary and modern repertoire includes Marie/Wozzeck (Gurlitt) and Zwangsarbeiterin/Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk.

In the 2025/26 season, Stephanie reprises the title role in The Cunning Little Vixen at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater and makes several major role debuts, including Sophie/Werther, Antonia/Les Contes d’Hoffmann, and Marie/Wozzeck (Gurlitt). She also makes her house debut at the Staatstheater Kassel as Gretel/Hänsel und Gretel, covers Second Niece in Britten’s Peter Grimes with Opera North, and makes her concert debut at Cadogan Hall with The Mozartists.

In the 2024/25 season, she appeared in a diverse selection of roles at Oldenburg, including Ännchen/Der Freischütz, Romilda/Xerxes, Gretel/Hänsel und Gretel, and The Governess/The Turn of the Screw, alongside her acclaimed first portrayal of The Cunning Little Vixen, a role which has become central to her repertoire.

Stephanie recently made her house debut at Garsington Opera as Barbarina/Le nozze di Figaro, and both covered and performed Susanna in Garsington’s OperaFirst production with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Internationally, she made her house and role debut with the Danish National Opera as Lenio in The Greek Passion. Known for her musical agility and reliability, she also stepped in at short notice to perform Romilda/Xerxes at the Stadttheater Passau.

Previously, Stephanie was a member of the Opernstudio at the Landestheater Detmold, where she was awarded a Theaterpreis for her work over two seasons. She was also selected as an Orpheus Foundation Artist (2024) and invited to participate in the Neue Stimmen Masterclass Series (2023/24).

Her concert and recital appearances include collaborations with the Brodsky Quartet at the Dante Music Festival, performances at the Leicester Music Festival, and a series of solo recitals across the UK. She has appeared on BBC Two in Rick Stein’s Cornwall series, and, in 2025, provided the singing voice of Aloysia Weber in Amadeus for Sky TV.

Stephanie holds a Master’s degree with First Class Honours from the Royal College of Music, supported by the Midori Nishiura Scholarship, and previously studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig. She is a former Leeds Lieder Young Artist and Countess of Munster Recital Artist, and has received recognition in numerous international competitions.
